Truss the Triangle: Sturdy Shelf Challenge

Students will:

• Cut, fold, and connect cardboard using Makedo tools to create a stabilised shelf with triangular support. 

• Explore structural engineering concepts by observing how geometric shapes (specifically isosceles triangles) impact an object's strength and functionality.

• Apply problem-solving skills to determine optimal placement for a functional shelf within a cardboard structure.

Students can:

• Successfully create a shelf that holds weight without collapsing by using the power of triangles.

• Explain how triangular shapes provide structural stability compared to other shapes.

• Use the Makedo Safe-Saw, Fold-Roller and Scrus accurately to follow a template and construct a functional design.
