Make a historical costume

Bring a figure from the past into the present, cardboard style. Select a person from history you admire, then design a costume or prop that best represents them.

Lesson Steps

  1. Students select a person in history that they admire.

  2. Using Makedo tools and upcycled cardboard, design a costume or prop that best represents how that person changed the world or impacted their values and actions.

  3. Choose one or more of the Subject-Aligned activities below:

    • English: Create a video or write a speech, jingle, rap or poem to perform based on what the historical figure person achieved. 

    • Media Arts: Design a theatre or movie set that places your person within their era. 

    • English / Humanities and Social Sciences: With a partner, choose two historical figures and have a conversation with one another in character. 

    • English / Humanities and Social Sciences: Write or record an interview with your chosen historical figure and ask them what they think of the world and what message they have for the people of today.

    • Humanities and Social Sciences: Design a game to teach others about what the person did to change the world.
