Activity

Lesson Steps

  1. Students work together as a class using Makedo tools and connectors to create a city that responds to one aspect of climate change, such as flooding, rising temperatures, droughts, wildfires, or rising sea levels.

  2. Choose one or more of the subject-specific variations to conduct with your students below.

  • Science: Research the consequences of climate change beyond cities and how people are responding to these challenges.

  • Media Arts: Create a video, presentation or play that teaches others about the consequences of climate change.

  • Humanities and Social Sciences / Science: Invite a guest speaker into class to talk about sustainability, climate and what students can do in response to the issue. If possible, access someone who is personally experiencing the effects of climate change.

  • English: Research the values and work of climate change activists such as Greta Thunberg.

  • Humanities and Social Sciences: Research the environmental policies of your school and/or local community. Are they sufficient? Can they be improved?

  • English: Write to your local member of the government to comment on and suggest changes to their policies and practices addressing climate change.
