Make a box mask

A great way to explore identity and become familiar with Makedo by transforming a cardboard box into a unique mask. Let the fun begin!

Objectives

Preparation

Materials

  • Makedo Invent Kit

  • Upcycled cardboard, including boxes big enough to be used as a mask

  • Markers and craft supplies for decorating (optional)

Activity

Bite-Sized Build

Students transform a simple cardboard box into an imaginative mask. You can allow students to suggest a theme, such as a mask that represents their identity or a mask inspired by a creature. Allow students to design their mask as they please or use the steps below as a rough guide.

Reflection

Journal Prompts

  • What decorations or features did you add to make your mask unique? What do these features represent?

  • How did you problem-solve to make your mask fit? Was it comfortable to wear?

  • Did you face any unexpected challenges while creating your Facebox Mask? How did you overcome these?

  • Who can you go to for support in times of challenge?

Extension

Take It Further

  • Create Facebox Masks in line with characters from a story or book.

  • Write a story or play featuring all of the Facebox characters created.

  • Create a cardboard costume to pair with your Facebox Mask.
