Make a hero costume

Create a unique and wearable superhero costume from cardboard to help save the day. A cape, a shield, power boots or a helmet… how will your students be transformed?

Objectives

Preparation

Materials

  • Makedo Invent Kit

  • Upcycled cardboard

  • Markers and craft supplies for decorating (optional)

Activity

Bite-Sized Build

Students design and create their very own wearable cardboard superhero costume using upcycled cardboard. They can add props, decorations and give their superhero a name.

Reflection

Journal Prompts

  • What makes a hero costume different from other costumes?

  • How does it feel when you put your costume on?

  • How does your behaviour differ when you wear a hero costume? Why do you think this is?

  • What strengths do you possess that make you a superhero (even without a costume)?

Extension

Take It Further

  • Students consider their personal strengths, then use these to inform the design of their superhero costume.

  • Design a superhero costume targeting a current issue (eg. climate change).

  • Create a comic strip where your superhero is the main character, including a name and tagline or slogan for your superhero.
